Let’s celebrate the joy of reading in America and the Philippines!
BKP is holding a global readathon from April 26-May 5, 2015. Pick up a book, or sponsor a readathoner! The $20 (or more) from each sponsor will support a readathoner’s ten day effort. Readathoners may choose what book to read, and very young children may be read aloud to for at least 10 mins per day for 10 days. Suggested books from Filipino authors are G. Bolandrina’s Tenacious Nurse; J. Cerrudo-Sese’s Nurse Vignettes and M Mencias; What’s Your Life Masterpiece? Free pdf copies are available to participants.
If paying by check, please make payable to BKP, Inc and mail to 67 Meadow Fox Lane, Chester, NH 03036. Don’t forget to share photos of yourself enjoying reading - on our Facebook page (www.facebook.com/pages/Bagong-Kulturang-Pinoy-Inc-BKP.
After the readathon, we're holding a "Book Talk" social in Wayland, MA on May 16, 1:30-4PM. (Venue still TBD.) You get to enjoy the book all over again with friends!
Proceeds from the readathon will enable BKP to procure and ship books to schools and community libraries in impoverished areas in the Philippines, and to provide training and support to teachers. To date, BKP has helped establish close to 200 reading centers and mini-libraries all over the Philippines. Thousands of children, who otherwise would not have access to books, get to enjoy these wonderful and fascinating storybooks every day! BKP's vision is for them to feel empowered to think, confidently understand English children’s books despite the challenges students face in Philippine public schools.
Hundreds of children in the Philippines will read during the same 10-day period, to be one with all the readers here. Target number: 100 readathoners in the US, enlisting the support of 500 sponsors, with a goal to raise at least $10,000 to fund BKP's mission to share the joy of reading with thousands of disadvantaged Filipino children back home.
Your donations are tax-deductible. BKP is a registered 501c3 non-profit. For more information, please visit our website: www.bkpinc.org. Should you need more information, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
