Overwhelming amount of medical issues in a short time
Organized by: Laura LaChance
In February 2013, I suddenly became very ill, I had shortness of breath, fever and a large knot under my arm. I went to the emergency room after several tests, I was admitted for further testing and possible surgery to remove the large cyst under my arm. A chest X-ray and ct scan revealed a tumor on my lung and thyroid cancer. During my week long stay, a biopsy showed the tumor on my lung was benign. I had to have the cyst opened which revealed a very serious case of MRSA. At this time I was too sick to have my thyroid removed, thus would be done at a later date. I went to stay at a rehabilitation facility for 2 weeks of IV antibiotics. In March of 2013 I was back in the hospital to have my thyroid removed and have radioactive iodine treatment. I retired in 2014 after working 39 years medical issues made it increasingly difficult to work. I'm not old enough to collect full retirement benefits, I'm living off of my annuity which is half of the income I was making. Shortly after retiring, my health seemed to become my worst enemy. It's been one thing after another. In August of 2015, I tore my right bicep tendon, which is my dominant hand. I had surgery to repair the tear and was in a brace and sling for 8 weeks. Recovery has been very slow and painful. Then in November of 2015, I came down with bronchitis which would not get better. After 3 months of misery, antibiotics, inhalers and steroids I began to feel like I would never be well. I was sent to a pulmonary doctor who discovered the tumor on my lung had grown. He sent me to a Thorasic surgeon. It was decided the tumor had to be removed and checked for cancer. Fortunately, I'm cancer free and no further treatment was necessary. However, I have accumulated many medical bills and I don't have extra income after retiring since I make half of what used to make and I'm not old enough to get social security. During my recovery from lung surgery, water backed up in my basement due to a broken sewer line. I have no where to go to get money to pay for the repair or cleanup which I can't do right now due to surgical restrictions. Any help would be appreciated.
