WE SEE SOLUTIONS | BLACK GIRLS ROCK! MENTORING, EMPOWERING, AND INSPIRING THE NEXT GENERATION

About Our Mission:

Founded by celebrity DJ and philanthropist, Beverly Bond, BLACK GIRLS ROCK! is an organization dedicated to promoting positive images of women of color in mass media and the holistic empowerment of Black women and girls across the African Diaspora.

BLACK GIRLS ROCK! Inc. is a 501(c)3 non-profit empowerment and mentoring organization for women of color. The organization was established in 2006 to catalyze positive identity development through a regiment of programs in the arts, critical media literacy, cultural competency, technology, leadership, and public service. Our organization also encourages dialogue and analysis of the ways women of color are portrayed in the media and creates content to balance perception of women and girls in mass media.

Since its founding, BLACK GIRLS ROCK! has helped hundreds of girls build self-esteem, self-worth, and self-actualization by changing their outlook on life expectancies, expanding their experiential learning opportunities, and cultivating the life skills that help young women to empower themselves and others. MESSAGE FROM OUR FOUNDER:

Friends,

Thanks to you, our growth at BLACK GIRLS ROCK! has been incredible over the past seven years. We are grateful for each of you who have played a pivotal role in helping us continue to make a difference in the lives of the young women we serve.

OUR IMPACT TO DATE

BLACK GIRLS ROCK! has mentored and directly impacted the lives of over 3,000 teen girls through our youth enrichment programs, workshops, conferences, scholarships and school partnerships.

  • 100% of the girls who have graduated from the BLACK GIRLS ROCK! mentoring program have  gone on to college.
  • We have touched millions of women and girls worldwide with our empowering media messages shown on the annual BLACK GIRLS ROCK! Awards on BET. This year, Most recently, the award show garnered 2.7 million viewers when it premiered on November 4, 2013.
  • We have generated important public conversations about feminism, Black female identity development, and media literacy through the BLACK GIRLS ROCK! THINK TANK for Research, Advocacy, and Social Action.
  • In conjunction with UNCF and MBIB, we produced the BLACK GIRLS ROCK! Imagine a Future documentary and launched a scholarship for young women who are undergraduate college students.
  • In 2013, we hosted the third annual global leadership camp, the BLACK GIRLS ROCK! Queens' Camp for Leadership and Excellence at Columbia University and Barnard College. The camp welcomed girls from all over the US and other countries including: the United Kingdom, South Africa, Liberia, Zimbabwe, and Trinidad.

THE JOURNEY AHEAD

BLACK GIRLS ROCK! is cultivating a strategic plan to foster more international impact.  In 2014 we will expand our services and programs to women and girls across the world by hosting online seminars, regional conferences and camps that will cover:

  • FINANCIAL LITERACY
  • INNOVATION & ENTREPRENURSHIP
  • CRITICAL CULTURAL LITERACY
  • TECHNOLOGY AND SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

BE A PART OF THE SOLUTION – WE CANNOT DO THIS ALONE

We rely on the generous donations made by our supporters, like you, in order to run our weekly Saturday Academy, the annual BLACK GIRLS ROCK! Queens' Camp for Leadership and Excellence, and our on-going BLACK GIRLS ROCK! THINK TANK for Research, Advocacy, and Social Action.

In order to sustain these programs and to expand our services we are embarking on an aggressive capital fundraising campaign for 2014 to raise $250,000 which will help us garner the financial resources to host more camps, conferences, panels and workshops that will reach women and girls in communities across the world.

Please be apart of the solution by contributing to this campaign today. Help us grow and continue to serve by making a charitable donation.  If you would like to donate, please click on the ORANGE DONATE BUTTON ON THE RIGHT, or mail a check to:
