The Blechman Foundation is a non-profit charitable organization dedicated to funding cutting-edge Parkinson’s disease research. The inspiration behind our cause is our mother, who was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2008. On behalf of our mom and others like her, we are committed to hastening progress in the fight against Parkinson’s disease.
In this effort, we are focused primarily on research to identify and develop effective neuroprotective drugs with the goal of bringing them to market as soon as possible. There are a number of procedures currently available to detect Parkinson's disease decades before the motor symptoms develop and a patient is diagnosed. If drugs were able to protect neurons from the damage that occurs between the time of early detection and diagnosis decades later, then the disease process could be delayed if not halted altogether. An emerging and exciting area of research, neuroprotective drugs have the potential to provide enormous benefits that go well beyond what is currently available in the battle against Parkinson's disease as well as other neurodegenerative diseases. Research in this area holds great promise to relieve the suffering of millions of people and to prevent future generations from ever experiencing the disease symptoms. This is an issue that touches everyone. We invite you to join us as we work to make effective neuroprotection a reality.
