BENEFITING: Ben's Lighthouse
For the two summers since the Sandy Hook tragedy, Ben's Lighthouse has taken groups of Newtown teens to help in the relief efforts after natural disasters in Oklahoma and Colorado.
These "Helping Is Healing" work trips have brought a total of 39 Newtown high schoolers (so far) to places where they can be of true service to others. By doing so, they have shone a light of grace and goodwill to others. Equally as important, each of these young men and women has gained a perspective about being from Newtown that is not possible while being in Newtown. Each work trip has included a visit to a memorial -- Oklahoma City, Columbine -- where discussions with survivors of those tragedies have created a network of support and resiliency.
Ben's Lighthouse plans to continue these trips for years to come. The teens that have already participated, and their families, are eager to "pay it forward" by raising funds so that someone else can take a similarly meaningful journey. Each of these kids is hoping to raise the $1000 needed to sponsor the trip for some other Newtown teen. (In addition, other Ben's Lighthouse supporters are trying to do the same.)
Please help the person(s) of your choice to raise the funds necessary to send another Newtown teen on next year's trip.
