BENEFITING: CROSS-CULTURAL SOLUTIONS
Boston Latin School Ambassadors was created by two students who recently traveled to Mongolia as part of a journalism/leadership program with United Planet, a non-profit organization which sends volunteers to international volunteer sites. After coming back the students and teachers who participated in the program were given a small grant to make a project to show the effect of the trip. The Mongolia program focused on community service, leadership, journalism, democracy, and cultural exchange. Niamh Flaherty and Brittney Butler, two students who attended, created a BLS club in the image of United Planet. The club is founded on interest in cultural exchange, leadership, learning skills, and desire to volunteer with the less fortunate in the immediate community and across the world. A few students from the club plan to volunteer in an orphanage in Nepal in April 2013. We are fundraising the the amount it costs to send 6 students and 1 adult to Nepal to be part of IFREvolunteers for two weeks working in an orphanage teaching English, and providing care.
