I'm on the Board of Engineers for Blue Engine - a new non-profit that combats college under-preparedness by recruiting and supporting teams of Blue Engine Teaching Assistants (BETAs), recent college graduates who partner with classroom teachers to increase academic rigor in public high schools.

In its first school year (20010-11), Blue Engine tripled the college ready rate in Algebra for its first partner school.
Now, Blue Engine wants to do more. That's why they launched The December Campaign.

Success in college is shaped by many factors, but research has consistently shown that academic rigor during high school is the single strongest predictor of whether students sink or swim once they enter college. The Blue Engine model was designed to help students master the advanced academic skills required for high school and college success. BETAs dramatically reduce instructor-to-student ratios (1:6) by collaborating with teachers to customize instruction, increase academic rigor and build empowering relationships with students at every academic level—not just high achieving students, struggling students, or students who opt into the program—starting day one of freshman year.
