We need your help to fund 2 projects to help two native fish in the Weber River near Ogden Utah. In 2011, the Western Native Trout Initiative (WNTI) and Desert Fish Habitat Partnership (DFHP) joined the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources, Trout Unlimited, and their many partners in the Weber River Partnership in funding a series of 3 habitat projects in an 18 mile stretch of the Weber River near Ogden, Utah. This was the final phase of a project to protect native fish and improve the water efficiency for the water users. The 3 projects were completed in 2015. WHY WE NEED YOUR HELP: We need to keep going! We have our next projects lined up to work on another 4 miles of the lower Weber River, and some money raised already but need help to put us over the top. Morgan Diversion: The Morgan Diversion is located in Morgan Valley and blocks passage for both Bonneville cutthroat trout and bluehead sucker. The Morgan Diversion is an abandoned 7-foot tall dam and a complete barrier to fish in the river during most flows. We are close to having enough funding to remove this dam. Jacobs Creek: While we have already replaced an undersized culvert at a road crossing on Jacobs Creek, there is another culvert just upstream that creates a barrier for spawning Bonneville cutthroat trout that still needs to be addressed. The Utah Department of Wildlife Resources has identified Jacobs Creek as one of the most important spawning tributaries for Bonneville cutthroat trout in this reach of the Weber River. The entire project cost for both projects is $109,615. We need to raise another $25,000 to reach our goal and need your help in putting us over the top to get these projects done!
