Look at us go!
March 07, 2016
For 20 incredible years the Blue Lightning relay team was captained by our friend Craig Welch. Missing only the very first year, Craig led our teams from 1996 to 2015, a streak that tragically has come to a sudden end. On February 1st, 2016, Craig suffered a heart attack while doing what he loved most - running - and did not survive it. He leaves behind his wife (and our spiritual co-captain) Colleen and countless friends whose lives he touched with his great passion and energy.
Blue Lightning started out as an off-shoot of the IBM San Jose Running Club, but over the years, the team has morphed from a pure corporate team to one that has a wide reaching collection of runners from many walks of life. The one thing we've always had in common, was being tied together by Craig. So rather than fold tent this year, Blue Lightning 21 will hit the road once again to raise awareness for organ donation. But this year, we will do so in the honor and memory of Craig Welch. He will always be our captain.
We hope you will support our fundrasing effort and enable us to blow past our modest goal, truly making this a memorable event for the entire Relay family. And if we look lost out on the course, please point us in the right direction, as our ability to once again make it to Santa Cruz will be severely tested this year! Thank you
