I chose to do this because The National Kidney Foundation is important to me and my family. In 2002 my father, Jules Bluestone suffered kidney failure due to struggles with diabetes. He was diagnosed at age 40. And at the age of 77 he was on dialysis and in need of a new kidney. All three of his children were tested to see if the blood type match was acceptable for a transplant. My brother Jeff was a perfect match and in one of the bravest acts of kindness I've ever known, donated one of his kidneys to our father. Jules is now 85 with a new lease on life allowing him to continue to contribute to society.
For this reason, and with the hope that others will have a similar opportunity through the donor programs supported by the National Kidney Foundation, I have decided to run for the cause.
But we cannot do it alone, here is where you step in and lend me a helping hand. The NYC Marathon is an amazing opportunity to raise funds to support critical research in this field, research that could someday lead to a cure for kidney diseases. My goal is to use my feet and my network of family and friends to make a dramatic impact.
Jules is 85; I am 55 (end of this month) leaving 30 generational years between. I am asking for one of these levels of support, according to your comfort zone and budget, to honor my relationship with my dad.
