For ten years I have volunteered for the Morgan-Lawrence American Red Cross Chapter serving several roles but primarily serving as a local Disaster Action Team member. Our team members handle about eighty single family or apartment fires each year in our two counties, and when called we assist with emergency shelter, funds for emergency food and clothing, and referral to other sources of help.
The local Red Cross also provides assistance to service men and women when there is a death or serious illness in the family, and Red Cross arranges through the commanding officer for the service member to come home.
The local Red Cross sponsors Preparedness and Health and Safety Training for hundreds of local citizens each year in First Aid/CPR/AED, water safety, babysitting, and other preparedness classes.
The local Red Cross sponsors monthly blood drives at our office and other drives in the two county area. The Red Cross is a major source of blood for our medical community near and far.
Our chapter supports area or national disaster relief such as the April 2011 tornadoes which devastated North Alabama.
In 2014 I am again volunteering as a Heroes' Campaign worker. Each "Hero" pledges to raise $1,000 in support of the Red Cross and the Morgan-Lawrence Chapter.
With genuine appreciation I ask you to consider a donation in any amount to this year's Morgan-Lawrence Heroes' Campaign and in my behalf.
I would suggest a donation of perhaps $20 or $25. Of course, if you are so moved to make a larger donation, that would genuinely help our Heroes Campaign this year. Likewise, a more modest donation in any amount would be helpful and appreciated.
If you prefer to donate by check, make your check to "Morgan-Lawrence American Red Cross," and mark the check for "Heroes--John Coon." You can give your check to me in person, mail it to American Red Cross, PO Box 297, Decatur, AL 35602, or deliver it to our office at 431 Holly Street, across from Lucky's Supermarket, during normal business hours Monday-Friday.
The best way to donate is online. Here's a link. It's really fast and easy:
Donations to the Red Cross are tax dedectible. On behalf of Red Cross clients in our area I thank you again for your consideration.
