I've hung up my cleats and joined the Board of Directors as an Ambassador leading our efforts on Community Outreach and Beneficiaries. I've been involved in this organization for 7 years now, and could not be more passionate about the work we are doing to Tackle Alzheimer's!
I do all of this in honor of my mom who was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer's in 2008. My mom loved to teach, learn, travel, laugh, drink margaritas, host parties, anything Americana, and helping people. But above all she loves her 4 kids more than anything, and I count myself lucky to call her mom. It has been absolutely heartbreaking to watch this disease steal all of that away from her.
The Facts: Alzheimer's is the 6th leading cause of death in the U.S. and the only one in the top ten that cannot be prevented, slowed or cured. It costs the American people $226 BILLION annually to provide care, and that number will continue to climb until we can find a cure.
Here is some scoop on the efforts I've made in the community over the years:
- My first ever blog post about Why I Play!
- I was awarded the first ever BvB Caregiver Award in 2014 and it was a REALLY big deal!
- I was the Honorary Chair at the Walk to End Alzheimer's where I told my mom's story to over 5,000 people!
Game-day will be held 8/13 in the Cotton Bowl. Come cheer us on at halftime as I get to hand out the $500k check to our 2016 beneficiries- Center for Brain Health, Baylor AT&T Memory Center, and UT Southwestern!!
I cannot thank you enough for all of the love and support over the years! It means the world to my mom and our entire family.
