Can't stop, won't stop.
It's been two years since I last took the field for the BvB Dallas Powder-Puff Football Game to raise awareness, and money, to fight Alzheimer's Disease. A lot (cough) has changed since then, but one thing remains the same (and has since I lost my grandmother to this terrible disease): it's time we #TackleALZ.
I imagine sitting with my mother and having her call me the wrong name, not recognizing who I am, as I witnessed my mom experience with my Nana.
I imagine my dad caring for my mother the way that my grandfather cared for my grandmother - bathing her, feeding her, reading to her, re-teaching her things she had known since childhood because she no longer remembered how to do them.
I imagine my neices and nephews forgetting what it's like to have their Gigi tell them fairytells and scratch their backs because she can't remember the stories.
These scenarios are easy to imagine because I know what it is like to love someone with Alzheimer's. Today, more than 1,300 people will be diagnosed with the disease. If I can be a small part in a movement that prevents my mom, my dad, your mom, your dad, your sister or brother, your grandparent, from facing this disease, I must.
I have a goal this summer to raise $3,000 to help fund ground-breaking research in our community that could not only change lives in Dallas, but around the globe - and for generations to come. Please join me in supporting these efforts by purchasing a ticket to the BvB Dallas game on August 13, or making a donation in the amount of your choosing!
