ORGANIZER: BIG D POWDERPUFF TACKLING ALZHEIMERS INC
I've been involved with BvB Dallas since its inception in 2008. Season 9 is the tougest year yet. On July 16, 2016, my grandfather, Duncan "Big D" Thomas Fulton, Jr. passed away unexepctedly after a 9 year battle with Alzheimer's disease.
Big D lived a full life for his first 80 years on earth. An avid car enthusiast, his 35+ long year career at NAPA was fitting. He worked his way up from the loading dock to President of the company. Once retired, he continued to restore cars (specifically his '57 Thunderbird which he detailed meticulously to the amount of over spray seen on the headlights) & his love for golf grew. He played every day of the week except for Monday's when the club was closed. His presence within our family was strong, sometimes stoic, yet always incredibly loveable. As a kid, I remember growing up in their house for Christmas mornings, eating his animal shaped pancakes, drives in the T-bird, drumming on his big belly while he laughed, and taking naps with him while he watched golf. As we grew older, Big D always gave sound advice as me and the cousins made our first "real world" decisions like selecting colleges and first jobs. He was a brilliant man, so when his memeory began to decline, we knew it couldn't be solely old age.
Prior to his passing, this organization was & still is where our family gives their support. We have attended every Game Day. We were patients of beneficiaries (thank you, Dr. Cindy Marshall at Baylor for your care). I ran the organization as lead chair in 2013 and 2014 during Big D's decline. We had recently moved him and Gran into an assisted living facility after speaking with BvBer's and their experiences (thank you Catelyn Cappleman & Kristen Schoellhorn). This organization does so much more than raise money and awareness- it helps and supports the people who support it.
Big D's funeral was on July 23, 2016 and in lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to BvB Dallas in Big D's memory if you so choose. No donation is too small. We appreciate your thoughts, support, and prayers during this difficult time for our family. Even so, we are comforted to know that Big D is restored in Heaven and now Alzheimer's free.
We love you, Big D.
