BENEFITING: World Hope International, Inc.
My adventure starts prior to July 4th, 2014. We were to spend a few days in Manistee Michigan with some very close friends. We all signed up to race in the annual Firecracker 5K. Penny and I had never “ran” competitively. Frankly, we had never run casually. We decided to walk the race, and actually jogged the last ¼ of a mile or so. I set a goal of finishing the “race” in less than 48 minutes. 16 minute miles was a good pace for us beginners. We finished right at our goal. Fast forward to the summer of 2015. Ericka and I discussed running the annual 5K on Ft. Myers beach the Saturday after Christmas. We agreed to start training the day after Labor Day. Our training was progressing nicely until I hurt my knee in mid-October. Although I could not run the 5K, Deeana (my 5 yr. old granddaughter) walked it with me. She won first place for her age group. Penny and I started attending the new campus of Kensington Church in Clarkston in September 2015. The more we learned about the Hope Water Project, the more we knew we had to get involved. Those of you who know me may be asking yourself, “who are you and what did you do with Bob?” I understand. If you told me a year ago that I would be running 5K’s to raise money to dig wells in Africa, I would probably wonder if you had bumped your head. Be assured that I am very serious about my commitment to this project. We take for granted that clean water will come from our tap every time we open it. For the Pokot people of Kenya, clean water is scarce. The Hope Water Project has drilled countless wells, serving thousands of Pokot’s. That said, there is still approximately 1 million Pokots without access to fresh water. Please join me and my efforts to attain my goal of $1,000.00 to help drill the next well. Be assured that any donation you make to this effort will go to provide clean water to an amazing group of people. I encourage you to go to www.hopewaterproject.org and see for yourself the amazing work that is being done to bring clean water to the Pokot’s of Kenya and watch this video that explains the entire process: https://vimeo.com/142701503. I will be running in the Hope Water Project 5K on June 4th, as well as the 5K at the Detroit Marathon in October. “Our” work is not done. “I run with purpose.”
