THE STORY:

My name is Bob Gross and I am a son, husband, father, grandpa, mentor, and leader.I have a beautiful wife named Theresa and haveb4 wonderful children together.Jordan,Noah,Hailey and Nicholas our youngest. Our new granddaughter is Payten Lynne and she was born on December 7 2015.My story started in 2007 when I was diagnosed with a mitochondrial disease on January 16th.This is an incurable disease. The mitochondrial in my body and cells is not properly working and has really changed my life drastically. I lost 37 lbs.the first month of getting weak and lost muscle strength almost immediately. I played baseball and softball for 31 years of my life and was told I'll never be able to do it again. Then in 2009 I started having major lower leg problems but let it go for months till I finally went to orthopedic doctor at University Hospital in Cleveland. Dr. Goodfellow and Dr. Wilber did compression test on legs and told me I had compartment syndrome, which is a very painful diagnosis. Imagine tourniqueting your legs to stop all blood flow and then beat your legs for hours and hours with a bat..Now just try to do regular every day life things, walking, running, etc. Finally did surgery on March 17th 2010 and within two weeks I started to have severe burning swelling and pain in legs everyday. So in 2013 It started getting a lot worse.Went to Promedica of Toledo and Dr. Assenmacher opened all 4 compartments in left lower leg.So the pain and swelling and burning came right back.On August 27th 2014 I got very weak and almost passed out so I went to St . lukes Hospital in Maumee. Was put on holter monitor on 2 seperate occasions. First time was 72 hours and then 48 hours the beginning of third week of September. On a Wednesday night at 9:23pm my cardiovascular doctor called me from his home to tell me that day prior my heart paused 9.2 seconds 7 times. They admitted me immediately and put dual lead pacemaker in due to sick sinus syndrome, part of heart. So this brings us to Christmas Eve 2015 when I was woken up by severe pain in left arm at 3:12am . didn't see anything wrong so went back to sleep and got up to go to work few hours later.By time I got to ky job in Taylor Michigan my whole arm was purple.I was trying to get through the day since it was Christmas Eve but the pain intensified. I drove the hour ride back to Maumee and went to St. Lukes with my 12 yr old daughter, Hailey. When they seen my arm they immediately called in orthopedic, vascular, residence doctor and explained to me and my family that nothing they can do,need emergency surgery immediately before I lose whole arm. They rushed me by ambulance to UTMC medical center and prepped me for immediate surgery. When I woke up in recovery, they said I was within a few hours of losing complete arm due to no blood flow,2 embolism. Had wound vac on for 56 hoursvthen had second surgery to close up the 22in wound on arm.8 days later I get out of hospital due to catching a intestinal problem and got severely sick, tube down nose and throwing up my own feces. So on February 13th 2016 the other compartment in forearm did same thing and had surgery on Valentine's Day next morning. So as of March 3rd I still have wound vac on arm due to very slow healing. My neurological doctor's at UTMC are relating all of this to my mitochondrial disease. It is impossible they said to get compartment syndrome withoit severe trauma and it has happened to me 4 times. So with all this going on the bills have really been piling up.Each day a different hospital calls and wants 100's of dollars. We are really having a rough time with this due to having a big family and not the greatest insurance. We are looking at over 10000.00 in past bills up tg o January 1st 2016 and over 7000 since. We are struggling to feed ou Rd children, put gas in cars, pay utilities and mainly by my 23 different prescriptions and vitamins I have to take everyday just to get by.These alone are over 375.00 a month. This week coming up they are stopping home nurse visits to change wound vac due to financial issues and to do skin graph I need to pay minimum 850.00 by Next Friday. ..So in closing, think about my family, don't feel sorry for me.Thanks...Well today is May 13th 2016 and just got back from doctor and graph is taking to wound,so that's a good thing. Now their concern is the tingling and numbness in both arm and legs when I lay flat.I have had 10 surgeries now since Christmas Eve and I have had it mentally and emotionally. It's scary not knowing what is going to fail next.
