Bodies of Text is a performance series featuring seven choreographer's interpretations of seven different artist books!
Initiated in conjunction with the Philadelphia International Festival of the Arts, Bodies of Text is rooted in the idea of Art à la Rue, bringing Art to the Street in Philadelphia’s Rive Gauche, West Philadelphia.
Choreographers Eleanor Goudie-Averill and Beau Hancock of Stone Depot Dance Lab, Rain Ross Dance Company, Jumatatu Poe and Shannon Murphy of idiosynCrazy Productions, Melissa Diane, Alie Vidich, Heather Cole and Erin Shanti Desmond of Movement Brigade, and Zornitsa Stoyanova of Here[begin] Dance Co. interpret books created by Philadelphia Center for the Book members in performances taking place in April, May, and September 2011. The selected books, which will be on view alongside the performances, were created by Ananda Connolly, Rebecca Kelly, Monica Kane, Anna Mavromatis, Lesley Mitchell, Jude Robison, Mimi Shapiro, and Bonnie Whitfield. Performances will be followed by a discussion between choreographers and book artists, examining the transformation from printed page to stage, and accompanied by storefront exhibits of artist books and related material.
We need your help to cover costs of production, including venue rental, lighting design, costuming, rehearsal space, set pieces and more!! Every little bit helps! Donate Today!
