A few months ago I was in Kenya to visit the work that the Maasai Wilderness Conservation Trust is doing. My favorite couple in the world, Shauna Robertson and Edward Norton had been telling me about it for years and I was so happy I was able to experience it with them.
We toured the work they are doing with the Maasai. We visited schools, clinics and met game scouts. The Maasai Wilderness Conservation Trust works hand in hand with the Maasai to protect biodiversity between the 2 national parks in Southern Kenya.
After seeing everything we all decided that together we could accomplish something that the Maasai have never had. We are going to build a boma (a traditional home) that is designed to help serve the disabled people in the tribe.
Unfortunately, members of the Maasai community who are born with a disability are often shunned and hidden away from sight. By providing them with a home that is built with their needs in mind and also training them in beadwork, we hope to shine a light on this group and help them feel like essential members of the community.
We visited a traditional boma and went inside and immediately it was clear that a person with disabilities would have a horrible time getting around inside of the dung building with dirt floors.
Please help us make this happen. It's expensive to build in this area but we think this is something if we all work together we can get done.
We need your help. Please donate what you can and ask all your friends and family to help out too.
