BENEFITING: OBRIEN SCHOOLS FOR THE MAASAI NFP
The O’Brien Boma Project is an opportunity for the school to become sustainable on its own through opportunities with the tourism industry of Tanzania. The project consists of the creation of a set of Maasai huts (or “bomas”) that will be replicated from huts around the village, but designed by N. Batistich Architects in the United States. The unique aspect of this project is that visitors have the opportunity to live as the Maasai do, right off the plane from Kilimanjaro International Airport and support a local school/village while doing so. This project unites Tanzanians and Americans and encourages collaboration. Needs that this project addresses:
- Economic Opportunities: Villagers will have the opportunity to work for the school under this project in various roles including tour guides, cooks, housekeepers.
- Sustainability: The school will be able to sustain itself from year to year and rely less on private and individual donors.
- Education: Villagers will have the opportunity to take part in educational programs to learn about the tourism industry, the project will continue providing education to the children of Sanya Station.
This project is only one way we are looking to provide for the future of our school, if you have any other ideas please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org or start your own Crowdrise fundraiser!
