EVENT DATE: Nov 06, 2016
THE STORY:
I joined Back on My Feet Chicago in 2011 when my roommate from medical school started running on Wednesday mornings. I enjoy both running and getting to know new people, so I thought it was worth checking it out. A few weeks after starting, I was hooked. I found myself setting my alarm for 5:15am most Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings to make it to each run. Over the last 5 years, I have met some incredible people and have been inspired to run more than I ever thought was possible. Running for Back on My Feet during the 2013 Chicago Marathon was one of the greatest experiences I have ever had, so when the opportunity to run the New York City Marathon to raise money for Back on My Feet presented itself, I jumped at the chance.
The mission of Back on My Feet is to combat homelessness through the power of running, community support, and essential employment and housing resources. The men and women I run with come from all different backgrounds and with their own unique life experiences, but through running and a commitment to the program and each other, we share a very special bond. It is incredible to watch members go from not running a day in their life to conquering a 5k, 10k, half marathon, and for many of them, a full marathon. Even more thrilling is to watch hundreds of members secure both independent housing and employment.
Your support of my fund-racing efforts would mean so much to so many who have become like family to me. Thank you in advance for all you can do to help.
Much love and gratitude,
Ali Sage
