26.2 MILES is the distance of the NEW YORK Marathon on November 3, 2013. I'm absolutely thrilled to be in training to run this EPIC marathon as part of the Back on My Feet - NYC Marathon Fund Raising Team! Back on My Feet helps residents in homeless shelters begin the process of rebuilding their lives through the gift of running. I began my training on May 19th and will be logging about 850 miles on the streets of Dallas, TX, preparing for this once in a lifetime experience. While training, I will be blogging to share stories about the BoMF resident members and volunteers I run with as well as stories about my training experience with an amazing local running group called "Run On" (www.runontexas.com) located here in Dallas. Run On has graciously supported me by offering a running coach and a training group called BGE (Best Group Ever) to run and train with. I will also be posting photos, videos, and testimonials about BoMF over the next four months leading up to the race. Why do I run with BoMF? Good question -
" My favorite part of running with Back on My Feet is making new and wonderful friends on a weekly basis who authentically support, encourage, and compassionately care for one another! Eric Liddell once wrote 'I run because I feel the pleasure of God.' I would paraphrase his sentiment by saying 'I run with Back on My Feet because I feel God's pleasure in it.' The early morning hugs, greetings, cheering for each other, and circling up together is a contagious joy - I know it must bring Him great delight."
Would you please consider joining my fund raising team? I can assure you Back on My Feet is making a difference in the communities it serves. I have been a volunteer member now for two years as part of the BoMF Dallas/Fort Worth Chapter and have seen many lives transform in the midst of being part of this loving and serving community. To watch a resident member lift his/her head, make eye contact with other members in the circle of people around them, and with a genuine smile share something like, "I start my a new job tomorrow", or "I move in to my new place next week", or "I have reached 100 miles in my training", or with tears in their eyes say expressively, "I love you guys - it's great to be here this morning!" is amazing. This simple and honest sharing of life lifts my heart and spirit incredibly. It is a jarring and humbling reminder as I consider my own story of joy and sorrow. We are "much more alike than different." It is my sincere honor and privilege to raise funds while running the 2013 ING NYC Marathon. My hope is to raise awareness about others struggling with homelessness, and raise funds to support a wonderful organization committed to making a difference and transform lives. With sincere gratitude, Terry Mullins
"The life I touch for good or ill will touch another life, and in turn another, until who knows where the trembling stops or what far place my touch will be felt."
