BENEFITING: The Bone Marrow Foundation, Inc.
ORGANIZER: The Bone Marrow Foundation, Inc.
EVENT DATE: Nov 06, 2016
So..... I've been really thinking for a while now... About Cancer- and how it has really and truly affected my life- and the lives of so many people I know and Love. My Beautiful daughter, Kayla, was diagnosed with AML Leukemia last October. My world has forever been changed. My eyes are so open now... But more importantly, my heart. I realize now how I really haven't paid enough attention to things that I could play a part- even a small part in helping.
Cancer is ugly.. And evil... And it takes all of us...playing a role and doing anything we can to help destroy it. Prayers are wonderful... And so much needed and appreciated!
I feel like I need to do something to help with this disease. Because the more people who help with this.... The more lives get saved. Whether it be by donating blood, bone marrow, volunteering, or raising money for research and organizations that really reach out to help people who are diagnosed with Cancer.
My daughter had to have a bone marrow transplant. It was the only way for her to have a chance to live.
Since Kayla was diagnosed, I have had a really difficult time in finding the drive and motivation in my running like I used to. Running has always been my life saver. It has always been what has gotten me through any difficult time.... I just threw myself into my runs....
I talked with Kayla about this a lot. It has just been hard to find my heart In running like it was... Because of fear.. And how fear can grip a person and really keep them from living...
I have decided to run the New York Marathon for the Bone Marrow Foundation. It is something that really has been staring me down. I need to do my part to help.. And running is what I do... So...I am going to do my part in
raising money for the Bone Marrow Foundation. Kayla has told me she will go with me. The Foundation would like to do a cover story on Kayla and her journey.
So, we are going to start some fundraisers to raise money for this. We have to raise at least $3000... Or should I say.. We get to raise at least $3000 + cost.
We have until November. So.. That gives us 6 months to put our hearts into this and see what we can do.
Some of my close friends have given me some ideas on some fundraising for this... I am excited to get started.
So.., there it is.......If anything can put my heart back into my runs... This is what can. I definitely have a passion and dedication for this cause.
I have not, nor will I ever, forget how much you have all went through this journey... At its most difficult times... With me. I have the Best Family and Friends a person could ever want.
And I look forward to sharing this journey with you all. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Approximately every four minutes someone in the U.S. is diagnosed with a blood cancer or blood disorder such as leukemia or lymphoma. Patients often lack the financial resources necessary to afford not only life-saving treatment, but also the often overlooked living and ancillary expenses that can be considerable financial obstacles. Since it was founded in 1992, The Bone Marrow Foundation has been dedicated to improving the quality of life for bone marrow, stem cell, and cord blood transplant patients and their families by providing vital financial assistance, educational information, and emotional support programs.
Bone marrow transplantation treats more than 70 life-threatening diseases including cancers and genetic disorders. The Bone Marrow Foundation works with doctors, nurse coordinators, social workers, and other medical staff from more than 200 hospitals and transplant centers throughout the country to connect patients and their families with the vital financial, educational, and support resources they need to make effective decisions about treatment and its aftermath. The Bone Marrow Foundation is the only organization of its kind that does not limit its assistance to a specific disease, type of transplant, or age range.
