EVENT DATE: Nov 06, 2016
Okay friends, I need your help once again. Since last October I have repeatedly asked for your prayers and I have asked many of you to join the Bone Marrow Registry so that a match could be found for Kayla Smith in her fight against AML (Acute Myelogenous Leukemia). And I was blessed to be there in February when Kayla had her transplant. It was a day I will never forget. I have seen this amazing young woman take everything a terrible disease can throw at her and do so with grace and humor and strength that its truly inspiring. Kayla has a huge heart, especially for others who have fought or are fighting this same fight. She wants to give back, and Kelly and I want to help her. Cancer is a bully and a coward and we all need to band together and stand up against it. So Team Kayla is hitting the road. Kelly and I and Kayla and her mother,. Janet Stoud are headed to the Big Apple, New York City. On November 6, 2016, Janet and I will run the New York City Marathon. Kelly and Kayla will be there to cheer us on and meet as at the finish line in Central Park. Team Kayla will be running as charity runners on behalf of the Bone Marrow Foundation. Details about the Foundation appear below. The Foundation relies 100% on private donations to provide these vital services. So, here is where you come in. We need to raise money. A lot of money. Thousands of dollars. That money will be used by the Foundation to provided desperately needed assistance to patients and their families with all those things that can devastate a family while their loved one is fighting for his/her life. So I'm humbly you to help Team Kayla by donating your hard earned dollars. I know it’s a big ask. And we really need nearly every one of our friends and family members to help to pull this off. But its that important. Please join us in this cause.
About the Foundation:
Approximately every four minutes someone in the U.S. is diagnosed with a blood cancer or blood disorder such as leukemia or lymphoma. Patients often lack the financial resources necessary to afford not only life-saving treatment, but also the often overlooked living and ancillary expenses that can be considerable financial obstacles. Since it was founded in 1992, The Bone Marrow Foundation has been dedicated to improving the quality of life for bone marrow, stem cell, and cord blood transplant patients and their families by providing vital financial assistance, educational information, and emotional support programs.
Bone marrow transplantation treats more than 70 life-threatening diseases including cancers and genetic disorders. The Bone Marrow Foundation works with doctors, nurse coordinators, social workers, and other medical staff from more than 200 hospitals and transplant centers throughout the country to connect patients and their families with the vital financial, educational, and support resources they need to make effective decisions about treatment and its aftermath. The Bone Marrow Foundation is the only organization of its kind that does not limit its assistance to a specific disease, type of transplant, or age range.
