For the last several months, my non-profit, Carolina Youth Initiative has provided over 400 free books to kids and adults and feed over 150 kids and adults in Southeast Washington, DC via our Books and Breakfast DC program. While we have received some donations of books, space, and money, we have been operating at a loss. For any business or non-profit to continue to operate long term, it has to at least break even. I'm not asking for money to buy myself a new car or house, but to get enough money to ensure that Books and Breakfast DC can continue to educate and feed our youth in Southeast, DC. If book donations fall short or if we want to distribute a specific title, we purchase books from wholesale distributors for as low as $2 per copy. If a church, community center or other organization does not donate space, we have to pay for it. Our healthy and delicious breakfast items are prepared for free thanks to our supporters, but we still have to purchase the food, the paper plates, beverages, etc. I do not take a salary for the time spent on Books and Breakfast, in fact, I actually miss time off from my day job at the car dealership. We are running extremely efficient with our resources and plan to continue. Please help me, continue with this work. Even $5 or $10 will help.
