We hope you will be inspired by our work to partner with pediatricians in low income communities to prescribe reading by giving books at every doctor visit. Please click here to learn more about Reach Out and Read Georgia.

We are on A MISSION to prepare children living in low income communities in Georgia for success in school and life. Help us raise much needed funding to support the 63 hospitals, clinics and doctor’s offices who participate in our program by providing books to over 78,000 children. We have many sites on a waiting list and a long way to go before all 250,000 children living in poverty under the age of 5 in Georgia are provided the services of a Reach Out and Read pediatrician.

The Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning recently awarded a challenge grant to motivate individuals, corporations and foundations to invest in Reach Out and Read Georgia. Our researched based school readiness intervention is a simple intervention - books given by trusted doctor's to children at every doctor visit - and yet has a significant return on our investment by preparing our youngest and most vulnerable children for school. Investing early and often in the life of a young child living in poverty is inarguably the best return on investment we can make.

The research is clear - books help to build better brains. In 2012 there were 233,000 children living in poverty under the age of 5. Sadly in 2013 that number increased to 250,000. Unfortunately children who live in poverty are more at risk of falling behind academically - even before their first day of school. Our goal is to fill the gap between those in need and those already being served by our program. Our goal is to reach these vulnerable children by providing books and resources to Georgia's pediatricians who work tirelessly to ensure their patients are "immunized against illiteracy." Our pediatricians recognize that health and education go hand in hand in impacting the overall health and well being of a child. Books and advice to parents by a trusted doctor yields significant results.
