BENEFITING: Coffee Quality Institute
EVENT DATE: Apr 25, 2014
Support me to reach my goal of raising $2500 for coffee women in the Congo!
On April 25, 2014 I will be joining a group of coffee industry friends during a Java Jog in Seattle, running my fastest 5k ever!
We’ve all heard the horrific accounts of ongoing fighting in the Congo. The Kivu region was recently struck by new violence, leaving communities reeling. Again, women bore the brunt of the brutality.
Kivu is a coffee-producing region, and communities have been beginning to rebuild this sector, facing tremendous hardships in the process. International buyers are taking interest in the coffees, and coffee is providing the people with a connection to the outside world and a glimmer of hope for their future.
Through your participation in this year's Java Jog, we plan to raise at least $15,000 to support female coffee producers in the Congo and their networks. 50% of the donation will provide care and support to the women rape victims, and the remaining 50% will support longer term economic empowerment initiatives for women cooperative members.
