The Borgen Project is a non-profit that advocates for the world’s poor and is working to make poverty a focus of U.S. foreign policy. With over 200 volunteers throughout the United States, we operate through four major strategies: building awareness of global issues, educating citizens on basic advocacy, mobilizing people across the US to share their voice in Congress, and advocating to make poverty a political priority.

Most people don't realize that ending poverty abroad isn't a competing interest with ending poverty here, but is more of an investment in a developing country. That investment leads to stabilizing overpopulation, and improving the economy here (almost half of American exports go to developing nations and has the potential to increase exponentially). The United States spends almost no money on foreign aid, and is continually cutting programs. The Borgen Project believes that foreign policy and development should be an issue that is higher up on the priority list in Congress.

With a lean structure and a small budget, The Borgen Project manages to have a level of political access that rivals Fortune 500 companies. Even small donations have a major impact in fueling the cause and building a political powerhouse for the world’s poor. The Borgen Project has earned the GuideStar Exchange Seal for commitment to transparency. That means that less than 3% of all donations go to the workings of the organization (Administrative costs, funding development) and that more than 97% of the donations go directly to programs. Absolutely every penny counts!
