BENEFITING: YOUNG MENS CHRISTIAN ASSOCIATION OF WORCESTER
Supporting working families is a very large part of what the Boroughs Family Branch YMCA does on a regular basis. The single largest program we operate is our Schools Out program in the town of Marlborough and onsite at the Boroughs Branch. Having this service available to the families in the surrounding areas allows them the necessary time they need for work and to provide for their families. Many families struggle with making ends meet, and as we know, the current state of the economy doesn’t make it any easier. Here is an example of what we mean:
Donald lived a comfortable life until his father unexpectedly passed away. He was always a little shy, but when his father died, he became quieter and a little withdrawn. The family lost sleep, worried about how to make ends meet without the income they were used to having. Donald’s mother, Lisa, and his older brother wanted to take on extra jobs in the afternoon, but couldn’t afford to hire a babysitter for the youngest member of the family. A friend told Lisa about the Y’s financial assistance program, and she called to find out more. The staff was friendly, understanding and helpful, and soon Donald was enrolled in School’s Out Boroughs. At first, he didn’t interact very much with the other children, but with encouragement and team-building activities, he began to come out of his shell. By the end of the year, Donald was singing in the School’s Out talent show!
Please help us continue to make an impact on the communities we serve by making a donation of any amount today. These are our friends and neighbors, our relatives and loved ones and they need our help.
