Boston Strong for Ecuador (Earthquake Relief)
Organized by: Boston Strong for Ecuador
Ecuador needs you! On April 16th, a devastating 7.8-magnitude earthquake hit the coast of Ecuador killing more than 480 people and injuring more than 4,000. The earthquake destroyed homes, businesses, and valuable infrastructure and has left thousands of people without electricity, water, and shelter. The government estimates more than $3 billion worth of damages directly attributed to the earthquake. This tragedy, combined with the economic crisis Ecuador is experiencing as well as the recent devastating floods caused by El Niño, could not have come at a more inopportune time. We are a group of Ecuadorian students residing in Boston, trying to assist our country’s most affected communities as much as we possibly can. We are asking for your help in our endeavor by contributing generously to our cause.
ALL proceeds will be sent to Metrofraternidad (RUC: 1790850234001), a private non-profit foundation that provides free medical assistance to low-income patients in Ecuador. Currently, the organization is working on numerous projects in Manabí, the most affected province of the country. They are opening medical centers and offering assistance to people in need. The foundation is also transporting people in critical conditions so they can be properly treated in the capital, Quito. Additionally, Metrofraternidad is collecting and delivering medical supplies to aid communities that were affected by the earthquake, helping prevent the spread of lethal diseases such as Dengue, Chikunguña, and Zika Virus.
Metrofraternidad Foundation began its activities in 1986 with the goal of providing free medical assistance to low income patients. The foundation is supported by one of the largest and most recognized hospitals in Ecuador, the Hospital Metropolitano. The hospital offers the foundation its infrastructure and services, personnel, and technology for free so they can carry out their mission. This hospital has an ISO 9001 certification, and is both a member of the Medical Tourism Association (MTA), and the Joint Commission International (JCT). Metrofraternidad has partnered with Lions Club International, the World Health Organization, the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), and many other organizations throughout the years to work in a variety of charity projects in Ecuador.
