BENEFITING: TIMMY GLOBAL HEALTH
EVENT DATE: Aug 18, 2012
HOURS PLEDGED: 250
Timmy Global Health is an Indianapolis-based nonprofit that works to expand access to healthcare, while empowering student and medical volunteers to engage directly in global development and tackle global health challenges firsthand. In collaboration with our international and US partners, we facilitate medical brigades and channel financial, medical, and human resources to community-based projects in the countries where we serve.
The Boston College chapter is involved with the Timmy Global Health international partner, Pop Wuj (a Spanish school and Medical Clinic), in Xela, Guatemala. As volunteers, we set up clinics at Pop Wuj and in various rural villages each day of the week, and aid the medical professionals, nurses, and pharmacists in Triaging patients, shadowing physicians, filling prescriptions, keeping patient records, and controlling the crowd/entertaining children. We are able to learn through first-hand observations the harsh living environments, lack of healthcare, and health-related disparities in this beautiful country.
The money will go to support Timmy Global Health’s programs in Guatemala and the partner organizations with whom we work. In the past, money has been allocated for the following: 1) training health promoters, 2) funding construction projects for medical clinics, 3) funding the construction of hospitals, 4) funding the operations of a mobile medical unit, 5) treating chronic patients in Timmy Global Health clinics, 6) subsidizing the cost of patient surgeries or other complex care, 7) purchasing much needed medical equipment so our partner organizations can continue to provide and expand access to healthcare, etc.
Help us support Pop Wuj's Efforts and join Timmy Global Health at Boston College! For more information about Timmy Global Health visit www.Timmyglobalhealth.org
