1991- The Pittsburgh Penguins won the Stanley cup and Derek was born. He was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis at the age 4 months. The median age of survival was 23, which was a great improvement from 5 years old in 1958. Over the past years great strides have been made with research and drug development.
2011- Boston Bruins win the Stanley cup and Derek is 20. The median survival age is now 37.
This is good, but not good enough. We need more research and drug development to find a cure and science cost money. So on April 16, I will run in the Boston Marathon to raise money for CF and for my godson Derek.... because 37 just is not good enough!
Please help me reach my goal of $10,000 so Derek can have many more years of fishing and hockey!
Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
