BENEFITING: Boston Medical Center
ORGANIZER: Boston Medical Center
EVENT: 2015 Boston Marathon
EVENT DATE: Apr 20, 2015
“Run to Remember” The last time I was on the official Boston Marathon course it was 1976. I had agreed to pace a college friend Eduardo (Eddie) Perez in from Wellesley. Eddie died tragically in a plane crash in 1981. To celebrate my 60th birthday and contribute to the future of emergency medicine at Boston Medical Center, I have decided to honor the contributions of those whose lives were dedicated to emergency medicine, prehospital and trauma care. I will run as part of Team BMC 2015 and carry with me the memories of the many incredible professionals I have been privileged to work with for the last 35 years at Boston City Hospital and Boston Medical Center - Ruby and Lynn Ronan, Juli Nichols and Steve Lawlor, Dave Frommer Erwin Hirsch and Rick Guobaitis, for Carleton Lewis and Festus and many others – EMTs, paramedics, RNs, MDs and staff. I hope that my friends will join me in raising funds to build the new Emergency Department and to assure a bright future for emergency care at BMC.

26.2 MILES TO A NEW BMC!
For the past 12 years, Boston Medical Center has proudly participated in Boston’s historic Marathon, raising more than $2.16 million for the hospital. In 2014, BMC was fortunate to have our biggest team in history, comprised of 107 runners and led by honorary team captain, actor Kevin Spacey. But the true stars last year were our runners who pounded the pavement, crossed the finish line and helped raise more than $1.1 million, in honor of the victims and marathon survivors of 2013. We are grateful to John Hancock Financial and the Boston Athletic Association for making Team BMC possible and for recognizing the unique role BMC plays in keeping our city strong.
This year, philanthropic efforts from Team BMC will be dedicated to our Building the New BMC campaign which will include construction of a new, state-of-the-art Emergency Department for our region. Boston Medical Center has the busiest Emergency and Trauma Center in New England with 130,000 patients per year—more than two-thirds of Boston’s major trauma cases annually. Understanding that trauma does not discriminate and anyone may need our services in a moment’s time, Team BMC stands committed to ensuring Boston Medical Center remains one of the very best trauma centers in the country. By donating to Team BMC you are showing support for the entire city of Boston.
Thank you for supporting Boston Medical Center in our mission to provide exceptional care, without exception every day!
