BENEFITING: Boston Medical Center
ORGANIZER: Boston Medical Center
EVENT: 2015 Boston Marathon
EVENT DATE: Apr 20, 2015
The 119th annual Boston Marathon will be my first time running 26.2 miles. As a former college athlete, I like to find new ways to stay competitive, and running - especially at long distances - is definitely a challenge. Growing up, I attended several Boston Marathons with my family, and in 2003, I watched as my mother achieved her goal of running a marathon at age 37. Twelve years later, she - along with my supportive family and friends - will be watching me cross the finish line.
I set a goal for myself to run a marathon by 25, and I'm so excited to be running it in just a year under my goal and for the Boston Medical Center, an extremely worthy institution that supports the people of Boston when they need it the most.
As part of the BMC Marathon team, I'm helping to raise money which will in part support the construction of a new emergency department. BMC handles more than two-thirds of Boston's major trauma cases annually - twice the amount of the other area hospitals combined. By helping me reach my goal of $5,000, you're enabling BMC to providing exceptional care, without exception to all who come through its doors.
The BMC is an academic medical center that is community dedicated to community based care. As the primary teaching affiliate to Boston University School of Medicine, the BMC provides a full range of pediatric to adult care services. To learn more about BMC, visit www.bmc.org.
26.2 MILES TO A NEW BMC!
For the past 12 years, Boston Medical Center has proudly participated in Boston’s historic Marathon, raising more than $2.16 million for the hospital. In 2014, BMC was fortunate to have our biggest team in history, comprised of 107 runners and led by honorary team captain, actor Kevin Spacey. But the true stars last year were our runners who pounded the pavement, crossed the finish line and helped raise more than $1.1 million, in honor of the victims and marathon survivors of 2013. We are grateful to John Hancock Financial and the Boston Athletic Association for making Team BMC possible and for recognizing the unique role BMC plays in keeping our city strong.
This year, philanthropic efforts from Team BMC will be dedicated to our Building the New BMC campaign which will include construction of a new, state-of-the-art Emergency Department for our region. Boston Medical Center has the busiest Emergency and Trauma Center in New England with 130,000 patients per year—more than two-thirds of Boston’s major trauma cases annually. Understanding that trauma does not discriminate and anyone may need our services in a moment’s time, Team BMC stands committed to ensuring Boston Medical Center remains one of the very best trauma centers in the country. By donating to Team BMC you are showing support for the entire city of Boston.
Thank you for supporting Boston Medical Center in our mission to provide exceptional care, without exception every day!
