Bottom Line is dedicated to helping low-income, first-generation students get in to college, graduate from college, and go far in life. We achieve this by providing one-on-one guidance and support to students from college applications until college graduation.
Bottom Line was founded in 1997 as a small operation supporting 25 high school seniors from Boston. In a time when 1 in 7 low-income students who began attending college would finish, Bottom Line's founder Dave Borgal helped all 25 students get accepted to college and 80% to graduate in six years or less. Since then, Bottom Line has maintained a high level of success and grown into a nationally recognized College Access and Success Program serving over 5,000 students from Boston, Chicago, New York City and Worcester.
We serve students from Boston to ensure that all local students can achieve college and career success. We have offices purposely located in Jamaica Plain and Dorchester so that we are accessible to all of the students we serve.
Boston has a great need for one-on-one college advising, and we are committed to serving those in and around our locations.
- Only 41% of Boston Public Schools (BPS) graduates who attend college graduate within six years.
- 650 low-income and/or first-generation college-ready students graduate from BPS each year.
- Over 50 post-secondary institutions are located in the Boston area
Bottom Line fills a gaping hole in the suite of college focused programs available to students, because we focus on the successful completion of college in addition to college access support.
Over the past 8 years, runners have taken on Heartbreak Hill and raised more than a quarter of a million dollars to support Bottom Line's students. Team Go Far will be running the Boston Marathon on April 17, 2017. Members of Team Go Far will participate in a marathon training program, meet Bottom Line students and staff, and raise funds to support our mission.
