BENEFITING: BOYS AND GIRLS CLUBS OF PORTER COUNTY INC
ORGANIZER: BOYS AND GIRLS CLUBS OF PORTER COUNTY INC
To know me is to know that I believe in the greater good of the Valparaiso community. Being a part of the team here at the Boys and Girls Club, I have come to know the heart of this organization as one that is passionate about giving kids a sense of belonging. Take the time and read an example of this:
A mother of a Club member that confided in staff member that she has stage two ovarian cancer for a second time. She wasn’t sure how she was going to share this news with her son as he did not take it well the first time she was diagnosed. But what this mother did share was how good she felt about the Club – and that it is a “happy” place for her child, one where she feels comfortable that he will be taken care of emotionally if the cancer takes her away from him. Another story was about a fifth grade Club member that has been coming to our Portage Club since she was in kindergarten. Her mother came to our Club Director and told him that her father passed away in his sleep due to health complications. She wanted to “break” this news to her daughter at the Club in the presence of the Club Director to help ease this news. These two stories highlight how important our Clubs are in the lives of children and how we truly do serve as a home away from home. I am proud of our Clubs and our staff that make lasting and positive impacts on children. For only $35, you can provide a year of opportunity for a child in our community. Join me in helping to make that difference.
Serving Porter County youth since 1971, Boys & Girls Clubs of Porter County focuses on academic success, good character and citizenship, and healthy lifestyles of youth at four Club units located in Valparaiso, Portage, South Haven, and Chesterton. Additionally, a quality and affordable before and after-school childcare program, Kidstop, is offered to community families at nine elementary school locations. Nearly 5,000 youth annually, aged kindergarten through high school, benefit from programs and services that promote and enhance the positive development of boys and girls. Clubs also are open during holidays and in the summer. Annual membership is only $35 per child. Financial assistance is available to those who qualify.
