BENEFITING: Boys & Girls Club Of The Colorado River Inc
It's a busy day at the Club, Tim's aunt dropped him off at 8:15 and she doesn't understand why he is so upset. What Tim's aunt doesn't know is that Tim didn't get dinner last night, and he just missed the breakfast bus at Club. Tim won't get to eat until lunch. Tim is embarrassed, ashamed and hungry. It is hard for Tim to control his emotions when all he can do is think about food. Tim goes into the hall and grabs a lunch box from a cubby, he devours the food quickly and quietly before anyone has a chance to see him.
We have had a rash of lunch box bandits here at the Club. What we discovered was that it wasn't just a few "Bad" kids trying to break the rules. These were hungry kids who were not getting enough food at home.
We need your help! We have seen a 56% increase in the number of children attending the Boys & Girls Club this summer. Last year we averaged 167 kids per day, this summer we are at an average of 300 kids per day!
We provide breakfast and lunch in June through the federally funded summer feeding program. Unfortunately, this program is only available in June for us.
We know how important feeding these kids is, so we are committed to providing breakfast & lunch through the end of summer.
Here is the pickle- we budgeted food for 167 kids per day, and now we have 300! Breakfast costs $1.50 and lunch is $3.50. That is $5 per day for 300 kids. That is $1,500 per day to ensure that these kids have nutritious food.
The BONUS is that we will be serving these meals at our facility which will allow us to serve meals for longer periods and feed kids even if they arrive late. (The federal program has very short time windows which they can serve)
The Lunch Box Bandit can be stopped!
Please consider giving today, $5 will feed a children breakfast & lunch!
Also- please join our fundraising team and share this story with your family and friends.
Thank you from the bottom of our bellies.
