Bradley Angle is a domestic violence nonprofit that has been serving survivors in our community for 40 years. In fact, they were founded to provide support to survivors in the LGBTQ community when those resources didn’t exist anywhere else.
Bradley Angle remains the only program designed for survivors in the LGBTQ in our state. And this is very important.
In 2012 a survey of nearly 200 LGBTQ living in the Portland Metro region, 37% of respondents reported that they are survivors of domestic violence.
But our community doesn’t really acknowledge that this violence exists. So when LGBTQ people—who are already marginalized by mainstream society—are in violent relationships, that violence has a very significant impact. LGBTQ survivors experience isolation from systems designed to support survivors and from our own community. This lack of support and increased stigma further limits survivors’ options to get out of dangerous situations.
Please consider giving to increase our community's capacity to meet this need.
