BENEFITING: Minding Your Mind
EVENT DATE: Nov 17, 2013
I'm running the Philadelphia Marathon (at sort of the last minute) with my wife's cousin, who happens also to be a childhood friend of my two brothers. I wanted to run with him. It's his first marathon. I missed the registration deadline and was encouraged to find a charity organization. I found a couple that resonated with me, and one called back right away: Minding Your Mind, an organization promoting mental health by generating awareness of the issue specifically during adolescence. That's the period of life when my brother, Chris (far left), was given several successive diagnoses, the last of which was Schizo-Affective Disorder. He died August 31, 2011. Some people think I'm a little crazy to dive into this at the last minute, but you know, if you've ever struggled with mental or emotional disorder, when are you ever ready for it? And how often does it really feel like a marathon? Minding Your Mind was kind enough to provide their last spot in the marathon. Will you support me in in supporting their mission?:
Minding Your Mind’s mission is to reduce the stigma associated with mental illness among adolescents and to encourage individuals who need help to seek treatment. Because the age of onset for most brain disorders is often during adolescence, it is important to provide proper information to students, parents, and school administration working with this age group. Please help support our ongoing fundraising efforts. Funds will help us to continue to provide our much needed education programs.
