Brady (yes, named after the great Tom Brady) is our loving, practically-human German Shepherd. He has just turned five years old and is beginning his second round of chemotherapy treatment for K9 Lymphoma at Tufts University. Brady was diagnosed with lymphoma this past July, just a month after losing his best pal Molly (our older German Shepherd who passed in June.)
Brady was in full remission after a 17-week chemotherapy, and we were thrilled! Sadly enough, his lymphoma has just returned at a MORE advanced stage, and the only hope to save his life (as there is no cure for this devastating disease!) is to give Brady a novel immunotherapy (a telomerase vaccine) that showed a great promise in a recently published study (see below). The vaccine can only be given to dogs in remission, which is more difficult to achieve when a dog has relapsed because cancer cells build resistance to chemotherapy with each round. As of now, Brady was lucky enough to have achieved the second remission, and we have a narrow window of opportunity to vaccinate him: if he relapses again before vaccination, it may not be possible to get another remission. Therefore, we need to raise the funds for this vaccine ASAP, before it is too late! However, our family is struggling financially, and there is absolutely no way we could afford his treatment on our own. Raising the money is our only hope of saving him.
