February 3, 2010, was a day like any other day.
I woke, got ready for work, made sure my son was up and getting ready for high school and I left our home. The rest is a story that I learned from others, I have no memory of it.
I LOVED to go back roads to work, viewing the wild life in the farm fields which was so joyful to me. The Story Goes: I approached a stop sign at a crawl, but my car didn't stop because of black ice, the oncoming traffic did not have a stop sign and the man that hit me was going 50-60 mph in a full size duly pick up truck. He says we locked eyes just before impact. I was immediately put into a coma, his truck pushed my car into a telephone pole which meant that my brain bebopped around back and forth until it came to a rest. I woke up 3 weeks later with no knowledge of what had happened. I pushed myself through 6 years of grueling (at times) doctor appointments, therapies, counselors, physical therapy and testing, so that I can now proudly say I am the new and improved Ina!
BIAMI has been a HUGE part of my recovery. They gave me back myself along with my confidence and gave me the courage to take the next step in my recovery. They were willing to give me a chance to see what job skills I still had and which ones I had lost in the accident. For this, I will always be grateful and BIAMI will have a special place in my heart.
The work they do, the help they give to all brain injured persons, whether mild or severe, whether due to a car accident, a slip and fall, OR having served in our military, is exemplary and non-stop. They work tirelessly for us!
