THE STORY:

Lindsay Lowther wrote -

"Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith." (Hebrews 12: 1-2a)

We are Lindsay Lowther, Josh Pederson, and Dan Nelson. The three of us are running the Twin Cities Marathon in October in honor of our close friend, Christie (Brink) Englemann, who died January 29, 2013 as a result of complications from a rare brain tumor. Our goal is to raise $2700, $100 for every year Christie loved and lived on Earth, for the organization Brains Together for a Cure.

Christie had a quiet but passionate zeal for life that was unparalleled. She was incredibly humble, beautiful, kind, smart, compassionate, giving, and funny. She wanted to live each day as healthfully and as fully as she could by loving others as a follower of Christ, helping others through her dietetics profession, and nurturing her own running journey by running a half-marathon with  her husband Jason. She continues to inspire all those who knew and loved her to live the same way. That is our whole-hearted committment and purpose for running this marathon.

We all met Christie as freshmen at Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota, where our friendship grew from there. We each remember Christie in special and unique ways!

Lindsay: Christie and I roomed together for our last three years at Concordia College. We were in biology and statistics classes together, and visited many coffee shops to study together. We co-led a campus ministry outreach team, which helped strengthen our friendship even more through our common faith. She also helped nurture my love for coffee, John Mayer, and the Gap! Jason and Christie's wedding in September, 2008 was one of the most beautiful celebrations of love I have ever witnessed and been a part of, and when their daughter Hannah was born in February, 2011 I knew they were going to be caring and loving parents as well. I am a better person for having Christie in my life, and I miss her every day. I'm running to remember my deep friendship with Christie, to keep myself healthy through the same habits that she taught me, and to keep funding brain cancer research.

Josh: Christie was one of the first people I met when I arrived at Concordia College in the fall of 2003.  We were in the same orientation club and we quickly became friends.  Christie was so humble and compassionate.  She was a great example of Christ's love.  I am so thankful for the years we got to spend together doing silly college adventures, seeing her grow in marriage with Jason, and become a mother.  I'm running to remember Christie and her example in my life, but also to help other families who are going through what Christie and her family went through.  Please donate to this worthy organization!

Brains Together for a Cure is a non-profit organization whose mission is "To promote awareness of brain tumors and the need for effective treatments." 100% of the funds donated will go to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota in order to help develop better treatments with more effective results for those affected by all types of brain tumors.
