BENEFITING: CITY OPERA HOUSE HERITAGE ASSOCIATION INC
EVENT DATE: Aug 25, 2017
The purpose of this fundraiser is to bring the complete Bach Brandenburg concertos to northern Michigan for the first time ever with top local, regional and national musicians. Performances of these six masterpieces are scheduled for August 25-27, 2017 at the Cheboygan Opera House, Bayview Association, Petoskey, and City Opera House, Traverse City. Spearheaded by well-known violist/conductor David Holland and cellist Crispin Campbell, the Brandenburg Festival represents a cultural milestone for our region. These performances invoke the tradition of joining music, cuisine and wine as a total experience for the musicians and audience during a generous pause at the midpoint, including locally sourced food and wine, and a chance to visit with the musicians. This music has an appeal beyond style time period and culture. It taps into a universal source that makes audiences exhale “Ahhhh” after the first few notes. To experience the full range of sound from live instruments rather than a speaker reproducing it is the essence of a truly human experience. In short, it simply feels good to hear timeless music created in the moment. Musicians delight at the opportunity to perform this music. Why? It’s like asking any trained actor why do you love Shakespeare? This project requires us to pay 26 talented musicians salary, travel, housing and meal expenses. Please help us make this remarkable series of concerts possible with your tax-deductible donation to the Brandenburg Festival. Give what you can and come enjoy an amazing experience in August.
