Breakout Mission Trip 2016
Organized by: Liz Barber
EVENT DATE Mar 28, 2016
This spring break we are taking a team to help put on a youth conference at Sonlight School and Church. Sonlight is a school that we support here at Southland and it’s also the school that Jon Weece taught at when he lived in Haiti. We are using the youth conference to reach out to the high school students at the school and in the church youth group. Several individuals from the group went to Sonlight a few years ago to install audio and video equipment in a 700 seat multi-use auditorium. It was an amazing trip and they fell in love with the school and the people there. Since then they’ve kept in touch and a couple of them have traveled back to participate in their Breakout Youth Conference. This time around, they've invited me to go with them!
Typically, the youth conference is put on by the staff at the school who have to work during their spring break. This year, we are serving the staff by putting on the youth conference ourselves! David Hausknecht will be teaching, the band will lead worship, and we even have production support with us as well. We are translating our favorite worship songs into Creole and recording an album so the students can learn the songs before we arrive. The highlight of the last trip was having three students give their lives to Christ through baptism during the conference.
We need your help! Most importantly, we need your prayers for protection against the enemy and for God to start preparing the hearts of the students. We could also use your support to make this trip happen. Each team member needs to raise $1,336. Please consider partnering with us to make this trip possible. You can donate online to the trip by hitting the "DONATE" button or you can mail in a donation to: Missions Department Southland Christian Church P.O. Box 23338 Lexington, KY 40523. If paying by check, please include a note in the envelope with the check stating who and what your donation is going to, but please leave the memo line blank.
We are so excited to see what God has in store for us and get to reach out to the students in Haiti. Thank you so much for lifting us up in prayer and for your support!
