BENEFITING: Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai
EVENT DATE: Nov 04, 2012
Mount Sinai's Sexual Assault and Violence Intervention Program - SAVI - is dedicated to helping survivors of sexual and intimate partner violence rebuild their lives through culturally sensitive, survivor-centered, trauma therapy and emergency room advocacy programs. Their youth, community and professional education programs build skills and raise awareness throughout NYC neighborhoods. SAVI seeks to restore hope, foster resiliency, and challenge the social norms that allow violence to exist.
Shocking as it is, every 2.5 minutes someone in the U.S. is sexually assaulted, 1 in 4 women will be a victim of domestic violence, and 1 in 3 girls and 1 in 6 boys will experience a form of sexual assault by their eighteenth birthday. Yet, programs like The Mount Sinai Sexual Assault and Violence Intervention Program (SAVI), still struggle to secure appropriate funding that will sustain and expand the vital services needed by survivors of sexual and domestic violence, their loved ones, and our communities at large.
Please help break the silence, decrease the shame, and increase awareness and prevention...it's up to ALL OF US.
