BENEFITING: BREAST CANCER EMERGENCY FUND
ORGANIZER: BREAST CANCER EMERGENCY FUND
EVENT: Virgin Sport San Francisco
Greetings! My name is Karen, and I have been on the BCEF Board of Directors since 2012. BCEF is a fabulous and inspirational nonprofit organization based in San Francisco, CA, and provides a community service whose value is difficult to overstate: BCEF covers essential life expenses for those low-income women, men and their families who are struck with the life-threatening diagnosis of breast cancer, but who are unable to work.
Put another way, BCEF will cover the rent or mortgage of a client struggling to pay rent, or face eviction. They will pay a utility bill in order to avoid electricity shut-off. They will cover costs of an essential medical treatment for those uninsured or underinsured.
Most of us are lucky enough not to know the struggles of living at or below the poverty level even while we're healthy; then, on top of that, imagine receiving a diagnosis of Stage III breast cancer. While holding down two jobs. Neither of which provides health insurance. While 1 or 2 children or dependents are at home needing care and feeding. While faced with unreliable or no transit options to get to essential doctor/hospital appointments.
BCEF steps in here. They provide help quickly, and compassionately. They've never turned away a qualified applicant, and they've never had a waiting list. BCEF is a tremendous grassroots organization and I am proud to be on the board.
Please consider making a donation to my fundraising campaign today. You'll make a huge difference in a client's life.
