BENEFITING: Lifelong Medical Care
What is the project?
My name is Vickey Hui and I’m currently a Community HealthCorps Member serving at LifeLong West Berkeley, a non-profit community health center based in West Berkeley. My independent health project aims to encourage mothers-to-be to breastfeed and provide them with the essential supplies, such as breastfeeding pillows, Lansinoh, and nursing pads. My goal is to make breastfeeding possible for individuals who may lack the resources or support to start. Also, I’d like to create a portrait/profile of our patients’ stories to better understand the community we serve.
In addition, I will be volunteering as a doula to offer support and encouragement during their labor and delivery. I’m planning on following a group of four (4) patients with an expected cost of $280 for the breastfeeding supplies. With your support, I would be able to provide these patients with the resources essential for their own and babies’ health and wellness.
Who will this benefit?
This project will directly benefit participating mothers-to-be with essential breastfeeding supplies.
When/Where will this project take place?
The project is currently in its initial stages and will continue till early June 2016. Thiswill take place at the LifeLong West Berkeley Health Center, located at 2031 Sixth Street in Berkeley, CA.
Why should the community support this project?
As a community health center, LifeLong West Berkeley provides resources for not just our patients, but for the entire community at large -- to lead a healthier lifestyle. We truly believe a community is only as healthy as its people, and this independent project will directly impact the women within the community to better their and their babies’ health and wellness.
Where will my dollars go to?
The money will go directly to breastfeeding supplies that are provided to our patients (soon- to-be new mothers).
The goal of this campaign is to encourage breastfeeding to women who either don’t know about the benefits or are lacking resources or funding. You can make a difference by donating before January 20th so that our patients are provided with essential supplies to breastfeed their newborn.
