Brendan Patrick Blind Artist Documentary
Organized by: Rob Cousineau Jesse Smith
Brendan Patrick is a blind artist who was born with Cystic Fibrosis, ‘an inherited life-threatening disorder that damages the lungs and digestive system. Through complications due to his illness, he no longer has his eyesight. Brendan learned to create art again in spite of having zero light perception. This documentary project tells the story of Brendan Patrick's journey. It gives the viewer a glimpse into the world of a cystic fibrosis survivor who is an artist, a musician and a man living without sight. Brendan's story is about perseverance and what comes after you lose everything you thought defined you as a person. We're making this film because we know there's someone out there in their darkest place and feeling lost. Someone out there needs to know this story. In the journey of filming this documentary we are traveling around the country meeting with artists, scientists, doctors, organizations, connecting with the Cystic Fibrosis community, helping to spread awareness of the reality of the illness, in order to educate people, and to create an open and candid dialogue about it. Brendan has been and will continue to do live paintings, talks, discussions, conferences, and meetings in order to use his voice with the time he has left to make the highest impact he can. From Rob Cousineau: I have been friends with Brendan since middle school. Brendan and I have been through a lot together. I've seen him sick and healthy, but mostly I've seen him handle his illness like a minor inconvenience, no matter how major the effects really were. Whenever I don't feel up to doing something or get to the end of a long-winded complaint, I think about Brendan playing hockey with two club feet, or screaming as the front man of a hardcore band even though his lungs were full of mucus. The effect Brendan has had on my life will resonate long after he is gone, and I want to share that sentiment with as many people as I can while he is still here to appreciate the end product.
