In the years since I started running marathons and raising funds to fight cancer, I have come to know more and more people who are dealing with this horrible disease in one of its many forms. I used to be able to count on one hand the number of people I knew who were diagnosed with cancer, sadly that number is increasing every day and the number of people I know within 1 degree of separation is now over a dozen, that number sky rockets beyond one degree of separation.
Some of these folks have been fortunate enough to be surrounded by loving, supportive family and friends; some have gone through the battle alone. Some have been fortunate enough to find Imerman Angels and get connected with a Mentor Angel
My good buddy Derek was the first to tell me about Imerman Angels and just how much help the organization and his Mentor Angel were. He encouraged and inpsired me to join Team Imerman Angels in 2011 to raise funds to help ensure no one has to face cancer alone and he continues to inspire and remind me of the importance of this service as he now volunteers to mentor others.
Since that time, I have come to know some of the staff, mentors and volunteers who give so freely of their time to ensure that nobody has to face cancer alone.
My friend (and super courageous, ultimate positive cancer warrior) Isabelle was recently connected with an Imerman Angel mentor and also expressed how much this organization has helped her since her connection was made.
So what am I doing to help?
I will be participating in my first half Ironman event at Timberman 70.3 in New Hampshire in August. My goal is to cross the finish line, upright and smiling.
More importantly though, I am doing my best to raise awareness of the services offered by Imerman Angels, and I've set a goal to raise $1400 for Imerman Angels, this will help fund 4 new connections and make a huge difference in the lives of those who receive a connection.
So what can you do to help?
1. Sponsor me (a.k.a. show me the money). The easiest way is to make a secure online donation right here on this page.
2. Forward this link to everyone you know. Don’t assume that if we know the same person that I have their e-mail or have sent this link to them, I know some may get this link 12-20 times, but really it’s a small price to pay IMHO.
3. Find out more about Imerman Angels at http://www.imermanangels.org or consider joining Team Imerman Angels and learn about how to take part as a fundraiser in your own event http://www.crowdrise.com/teamia
4. Show up and cheer me on along the Timberman 70.3 course on August 17, 2014. OK, I know this is out of the question for most of you, but hey you asked.
5. All of the above!!
If you want to know more about my fundraising or if you want to help in some way I haven’t thought of, contact me at email@example.com.
You can support me and this great cause. EVERY donation makes a difference. All online donations are secure and sent directly to Imerman Angels by Crowdrise, who will email you a printable record of your donation. It takes a matter of minutes, is completely secure and you can even leave a message with your donation.
Another equally important opportunity for you to contribute is by sharing this link with the contacts in your network, as people are the foundation and driving force of our organization. The more funds we raise and the more people that know about our mission and service, the more people we can help and inspire.
THANK YOU so much in advance for your support this year!
If you know anyone who is touched by cancer, please send them to http://www.imermanangels.org to get connected.
