Dear Friends and Family, It…
Dear Friends and Family,

It is hard to imagine that two weeks ago today I crossed the finish line of the 2016 Boston Marathon. It was an incredible experience! The crowds along the entire route were amazing. In fact, it was their enthusiasm that pushed me along. There were so many memorable moments: running under the starting banner in Hopkinton, the biker bar blasting AC/DC’s “Highway to Hell” in Ashland, Marc running onto the course in Natick, seeing Tanvi and the girls cheering me on in Wellesley, conquering Heartbreak Hill to the screams of the BC students, the wall of sounds that started in Brookline, and finally crossing the finish line on Boylston Street. The best part was hearing so many of you who took time off to cheer me on along the course!

The race was definitely not easy. As some of you know an early stress fracture of my left tibia prevented me from training at all for 2 months. The weather on Marathon Monday was beautiful for spectators but the sun and heat were brutal for runners. I finished about an hour off my pace with a raging sunburn on my back (and a few foot issues that are a bit too gross to mention in an email).

Despite the hardships, if Tanvi allows me, I would do it all again. There were a few things that pushed me through all of this. First, it is the support from all of you. Approximately 120 people helped me raise over $16,000. I never expected I would be able to do this, but each of you encouraged me during the training and helped me surpass my goal.

Second, the Med-Peds residents motivated me the entire time. I really hope that each of you gets to meet or work with them. They never cease to amaze me with their talent and creativity. I will make a point that the residents who receive grants through this new program inform and update you on their research projects. In fact, please let me know if any of you would be interested in volunteering to be on the grant selection committee or in helping me think of ways to sustain this program in the future.

Finally, all of my success with this effort is entirely due to the love and support of Tanvi, Amari, and Aesha. I spent many hours away from them in the gym and on the road. I am the luckiest man in the world to have such an amazing family.

Once again, thank you so much for all of your support and encouragement! I look forward to seeing and celebrating with each of you very soon!

Sincerely,

Niraj

I want to thank all of you, …
I want to thank all of you, my generous donors, for supporting me and the Alzheimer's Association in such an amazing way over the past 5 plus months. Together you all have contributed over $20,000 to support the MA/NH Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association improving the lives of individuals with Alzheimer's and their families and helping to fund cutting edge research needed to end this disease once and for all.

I survived Patriots Day 2016 and completed the Boston Marathon in a grueling 4 hours and 53 minutes. The heat, some nagging injuries and a viral illness likely all conspired to make me experience this race as the toughest one of my life by far! Although this time was actually an hour slower than my usual pace in Boston, I was buoyed by my family, all of you and especially my daughter, Sasha, who ran miles 8-10 in Natick with me and up Heartbreak Hill through Miles 20 and 21 while I was depleted in every way possible and experiencing leg cramps. I kept thinking of why I was running, my teammate Phillip Posa age 45 who suffers from dementia and the important work that so many are doing to realize our vision of a world without dementia. So on I went down Beacon Street, through Kenmore Square and eventually made my way slowly and nearly alone down Boylston street to cheering throngs of incredible spectators.

Thanks again for all of your kind words, support and encouragement along the way. It was so great to see many of you last Monday cheering on so many runners.

Best wishes to all and I look forward to another opportunity to connect in the near future,

Brent
