Brian SAYS:
Well, another Boston Maratho…
Well, another Boston Marathon is in the books and I am incredibly grateful for the experience once again.

I’m grateful that I was able to slog my way through 26.2 miles of cold rain and wind.

I am grateful to be doing this for the 20th time, particularly as one of the fattest guys in the field… and I am most grateful for your involvement with my run and my GFC fundraising efforts.

I’ve shared this before, but to me, the Boston Marathon is a shared ritual that builds community, deepens friendships, and engenders confidence. The experience strengthens bonds, spotlights character, reveals generosity, and affirms the spirit.
I am grateful that you were again part of this marathon experience.

Last year’s marathon was one of a kind and this year’s was too, to be honest. This year’s event to me is the new normal – the traditional marathon feelings of goal setting, accomplishment and shared experience, but amplified with heightened involvement from so many and the renewed importance of this event to the city.

That Golf Fights Cancer has come such a long way since our first steps is a credit to the generous and loyal supporters that have joined our ranks over the years. We raised $150,000 for GFC with this year’s marathon, which is amazing. Specifically, we raised money for Rhabdomyosarcoma research at Boston Children’s Hospital and Dana Farber. The monies we raised this year are particularly meaningful to me, as my 6 year old little niece Kiley Sullivan has been fighting this nasty Rhabdo cancer for a year. It's heartbreaking to see so it feels great to try and do something to help.

I plan to run again next year and would love for you to be a part of the experience again. We Run Together.

Double Your Donation to Golf…
Double Your Donation to Golf Fights Cancer

Thank you for supporting TeamGFC’s 2015 Boston Marathon fundraising efforts! We are proud of all 10 team members who have collectively raised $116,500. At this time, we are closing in on our goal of $125,000 and would like to ask for your help in getting there by way of matching gifts.

One in ten gifts are eligible for a corporate match. If all of our eligible supporters submitted their match, we could add approximately $10,000 to the cause! Would you kindly take a moment to follow the link below to verify if your employer (and/or your spouse’s employer) offers such a benefit? If you’ve already submitted your match, thank you!

What is an employer Matching Gift?

Many companies set aside funds each year to match contributions their employees make to qualified non-profit organizations. Most often, the companies match contributions dollar for dollar, and some programs may match at higher ratios!

What do I need to do to get my gift matched?

The employee must initiate the matching gift process. Just contact your HR department to obtain the proper paperwork or website link and submit basic information such as charity name, gift amount and gift date.

How can I verify to my company that GFC can receive charitable contributions?

Golf Fights Cancer is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Our EIN number is 34-1987772.

Dear Brett, Thank you so m…
Dear Brett,

Thank you so much for donating to my marathon run on behalf of the Glen Doherty Memorial Foundation. Your amazing generosity is so much appreciated! As I watch the donations come in, I am motivated to carry on in this 3rd year of training.

Ramping up the long runs with this epic onslaught of snow has been difficult at best. But knowing that it is providing funds to Special Ops Soldiers, like Glen, keeps me putting one foot in front of the other. As Glen would say, “never quit.” So Heartbreak Hill, here I come!

Please pencil in March 28th for our “thank you” party, 3 weeks prior to the marathon. Not only is it my birthday, but I will have completed my 21 miler that morning. There will be lots to celebrate! Best birthday gift ever is having your continued support for my running and this fantastic cause.

Hope to see you out there on the course one of these weekends. It has certainly been a tough go. We thought last winter was bad!? Again, many thanks for your support. I have not seen your fundraising email yet, so please make sure to forward it along.

Thanks again!

P.S. You can make an even greater impact with your contribution through a matching gift. All forms can be forwarded to me at Thank you!
